Evonik Industries AG (hereinafter referred to as Evonik) said abou its plans to construct a state-of-the-art factory in Weston, Michigan, USA for the production of ultra-high purity silica sol. With a total investment of $7.9 million, this cutting-edge facility is scheduled to be completed and put to operation by 2024. Notably, it will mark the first-ever colloidal silica sol factory specializing in ultra-high purity in North America. Silica sol serves as a vital raw material within the electronics and semiconductor industries, with its growth being propelled by the global demand for microchips and digital products.
It’s the new factory of Evonik that makes it one of the few suppliers in the market capable of providing the required quality and purity of silica sol for chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) processes in microchip production. Evonik’s silica sol, sold under the IDISIL® Brand, is known for its exceptionally high purity and a particularly narrow particle size distribution.
Peter Friesenhahn, the head person of Evonik’s silane business line, expressed that the establishment of the new factory will greatly enhance support for the strategic development of Evonik’s silane products. The company is dedicated to strengthening our product supply to highly attractive and technology-driven growth markets, while also striving to become innovative partners for our valued customers.
Evonik is a leading supplier of ultra pure silicon tetrachloride and other silanes in the semiconductor and electronics industries, with a global production network and innovative capabilities in this field. “Upon completion of the construction, we will be able to offer customers more options for product supply and enhance supply safety,” said Christian Edlinger, the head person of the silane business line in American continents.
The Production Base - Weston has extensive experience in manufacturing ultra pure materials for the semiconductor industry. In the new factory, the existing process flow will be integrated to produce high-quality products.
