The National Environmental Information Platform for Engineering Construction Projects of China disclosed that the environmental impact assessment report of the construction completion was approved and publicized on November 12 of the 1 kt/a silicone fluid surface treatment for fumed silica project, implemented by Tokuyama Chemicals (Zhejiang) Co.,Ltd (as referred to TOKUYAMA below). This project lies in No. 555 Yashan Road West, Zhapu Economic Development Zone (China New Chemical Materials (Jiaxing) Park), Port District, Jiaxing City. As is mentioned above, the product manufactured in this project is an ordinary deep-processed fumed silica that is mainly used as an additive in wind power blade adhesives.
Phase I construction of the project began in December 2021, and was completed and put into trial operation in January 2022. Completion acceptance was done in August 2022. Phase II construction of the project was started in February 2022, completed in September 2022, whose trial operation commenced on January 3, 2023.
TOKUYAMA was established in 2005 and is located in Zhapu Economic Development Zone, Jiaxing Port District, Zhejiang Province, China. It is a Japanese wholly-owned chemical enterprise. The company covers an area of 225 acres, with a total investment of $148.16 million and a registered capital of $69.23 million, with 11.2 kt/a fumed silica production capacity. The parent company, Tokuyama Corporation, was established in 1918 and is one of the listed companies on the Tokyo Stock Market in Japan. It is a well-known Japanese comprehensive chemical company that produces products such as sodium hydroxide, cement, polysilicon, PVC, and fumed silica. Tokuyama Corporation is a company that has been developing and producing fumed silica for many years.
Currently, the silicone fluid industry still faces structural contradictions in its products, with excess of capacity at the low end but inadequate supply at the high end. Therefore, the Chinese government has been actively promoting the development of value-added products such as phenyl silicone fluid, amino silicone fluid, and polyether modified silicone fluid at a policy level. Over the past two years, the domestic enterprises in China have made significant progress in domestically producing modified silicone fluid and high-quality silicone fluid as substitutes for the ever, which saw a further rise in trend in 2022. However, in terms of the quality of domestic silicone fluid, it still needs improving more. Regarding high-end silicone fluid based products, more breakthroughs are expected to be achieved in the future.
