The foreign organic silicon enterprises serve as a vital link that keeps us connected with the latest industry trends worldwide. Today, we will get some touch on Siltech Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Siltech), a silicone polymer manufacturer based in Toronto, Canada, and have the privilege of listening to Mr. Robert Ruckle, a senior executive at Siltech, as he unravels the secret behind this enduringly successful 33-year-old family business.
About Siltech
Siltech was established in 1990, and, after 33 years of continuous development, it has become a reputable supplier of specialized organic silicon. The company is primarily dedicated to the research, development, and production of silicone surfactants and polymers, currently holding an impressive portfolio of 35 patents. With a workforce exceeding 200 employees, construction for our third factory has recently commenced. Siltech's senior management team actively participates in overseeing various aspects of daily operations. As a manufacturer and distributor of specialized silicone products across multiple markets, coatings represent one of Siltech's prominent sectors where these materials are predominantly utilized as additives or resin modifiers.
View on the current decline of the silicone market
Like other companies in the silicone industry, Siltech has also faced a downturn this year. According to customer’s feedback, there has been a sudden decrease in demand in 2022, resulting in an excess of inventory. This indicates that the demand for 2023 is significantly lower than that of 2022. However, Siltech anticipates a partial recovery during the last four months of this year.
Green production implemented by Siltech
Siltech recognizes that in the future, organic silicon companies will continue to increase their sustainable goals and demands. Therefore, they are taking action in the following points. First, they are using the Ecovadis platform as an external reporting and auditing partner. Internally, they have used its guidelines as a roadmap and have implemented dozens of steps in the factory to improve their carbon footprint. These steps include recycling solvents and reducing energy consumption. Second, they are utilizing non-petroleum clean energy. Recently, Siltech has started construction on its third factory in Ontario, which relies heavily on non-oil clean energy sources. Additionally, Siltech has introduced the Silsurf® Bio series coating additives that utilize new carbon instead of petroleum-derived carbon to reduce carbon emissions.
