Editor:ACMI-Silicon Oct-10-2023

The significant achievements made in the Baotou crystalline silicon photovoltaic industry were reported by Channel I of China Central Television (CCTV) on October 7th. In recent years, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia, has been striving to establish itself as the "green silicon capital of the world".

01  Industry status booming

Strategically magnificent, Baotou has entered the "blue ocean" (unknown market) of the crystalline silicon photovoltaic industry. Since its inception, Baotou has been dedicated to building a comprehensive industrial chain and industrial ecology, paving the way for rapid development through fast project implementation, swift progress, and accelerated industrial growth. As a result of these efforts, the Industry in Baotou has emerged as one of its leading sectors with remarkable growth rates, concentrated presence, notable innovation advantages, strong regional competitiveness, and immense potential for further development. According to data from 2020 to 2022, this Industry in Baotou experienced rapid expansion in consecutive years with output growth rates of impressively reaching 99.8%, 224.6%, and 169.1% respectively.

Since 2023, Baotou has attracted 50 photovoltaic industry projects, with the expectation that, by the end of this year, production capacities of both polysilicon and monocrystalline silicon will account for 40% of the national total. By 2025, they are projected to represent half of the country's overall capacity and 45% of global capacity.

02  Attracting investment by famous companies

In order to foster the development of the "World Silicon Capital," Jinshan Industrial Park in Baotou Iron and Steel Metallurgical Development Zone is dedicated to enhancing support for the silicon industry and its related sectors, actively attracting leading enterprises in this field to invest and thrive within the park.

03  Paving the way for bright future

As a significant hub for the global silicon industry in China, Baotou is gradually expanding the scale of its crystalline silicon industry. The focus lies on attracting chip, battery, and component enterprises to achieve integrated development across the entire industry chain. Efforts are being made to continuously enhance collaborative support capacity within the industry by accelerating the introduction of supporting enterprises at various stages of production and application - upstream, middle, and downstream sectors. This will effectively improve local support rates and establish China's and most comprehensive industrial chains with a trillion-level supporting rate in the crystalline silicon industry cluster globally. Simultaneously, leveraging the advantages of silicon materials, Baotou aims to expedite developments in electronic silicon and organic silicon industries with an ambitious target of achieving a production value of RMB 100 billion within five years for both semiconductor and organosilicon fields. Baotou is striving towards becoming a leading city for the silicone industry.
