In order to meet the increasing demand for high-end electronic adhesives and back the rapid development of domestic markets such as alternative energy vehicles and communication technology, ELKEM has upgraded its production capacity and opened a new high-end silicone electronic adhesive production line at its Shanghai factory. The production line was put into operation at the end of July 2023, currently running smoothly. This new facility will boost our annual production capacity by approximately 1,500 tons, primarily focusing on high-end thermal conductivity family products manufacturing.

The focus of this production line is on manufacturing high thermal conductivity family products, including thermal sealing, joint filling and bonding. ELKEM offers a wide range of products with varieties of viscosity, wattage, and types such as single component and dual components. In essence, it is able to comprehensively meet various needs for industrial manufacturing and provide customers with convenient one-stop solution.

ELKEM accelerates maintenance of factory

On August 29th, ELKEM officially announced that it has decided to accelerate the maintenance of the factory in Iceland. Accelerated maintenance will reduce production by temporarily closing a furnace at the Grandians ferrosilicon factory, approximately 40 kilometers from the capital Reykjavik.

“This decision will not have any impact on customers or employees. We will continue to use the period of slightly lower sales to advance our planned maintenance and improvement work to future positioning, now at our factory in Iceland. Once market conditions return to be strong, this will reduce production costs, " said Inge A. Grubben Strømnes, Senior Vice President of Elkem Silicon Products.

ELKEM plans to invest around Norwegian Kr. 10 billion in the maintenance and improvement of the factory. As a result, one furnace will be temporarily shut down for approximately ten weeks during the fourth quarter of 2023.

ELKEM makes ferrosilicon (FeSi) as its main product, which plays a crucial role in the steel industry. Ferrosilicon can be utilized for refining steel or as an ingredient to achieve specific quality standards. While ELKEM has been producing standard ferrosilicon in Iceland, the factory has recently expanded its range of special ferrosilicon products to meet the growing demand from customers.

The number of furnaces in Thamshavn Port and Rana, Norway was temporarily reduced by ELKEM for maintenance and improvement work. However, they have resumed normal production since then.
